Charles H. Coolidge, recipient of the Medal of Honor and namesake of Coolidge Park in Chattanooga’s NorthShore, called Signal Mountain home prior to joining the Army in 1942. 

Overlooking the Tennessee River Valley and city of Chattanooga, Signal Mountain boasts breathtaking views, fashionable amenities, and accolades such as “Best Place to Raise a Family in Tennessee” and “Safest City in Tennessee.”

   

Real Estate: From stately brick homes and modern condos to log cabins on wooded lots, Signal Mountain has diverse properties to suit any taste. The elegant Signal Mountain Historic District features tree-lined streets and period homes. Other notable neighborhoods include Hidden Brook, Fox Run, Boulder Point, Grandview, St. Ives, Carriage Hill, and Raptors Roost. Newer developments, such as Wild Ridge, Signal Forest, Greyhawk Trails, and Union Stables, contain popular housing options.

Top Employers: Besides small local businesses atop Signal Mountain, residents can commute downtown to major employers such as Tennessee Valley Authority, BlueCross BlueShield, UNUM, EPB, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Chattanooga State Community College, city and county governments, and CHI Memorial, Erlanger, and Parkridge Hospitals.

Transportation: Residents of Signal Mountain are just minutes from downtown Chattanooga and major interstates that extend to the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, Knoxville, Atlanta, Birmingham, and Nashville. Taft Highway and Roberts Mill Road provide easy access to Highway 27, leading to I-24, shopping areas, and top employers.

Education: Public elementary schools include Thrasher Elementary and Nolan Elementary, with Signal Mountain Middle/High School serving older students. Kindergarten through 5th graders can receive a private, Christ-centered education at Signal Mountain Christian School. There is also a homeschool association on the mountain.

Health and Wellness: Chattanooga’s largest hospitals – CHI Memorial, Erlanger, and Parkridge – are a short drive away, while family medical, dental, and pharmaceutical care services operate on Signal Mountain.
