Did You Know?

Booker T. Washington State Park is named in honor of influential educator and leader Booker Taliaferro Washington. Washington, a huge proponent of agricultural and vocational education, founded the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute in Alabama in 1881.

SHOPPING:

Local restaurants, salons, and boutiques can be found with ease in the heart of Ooltewah and in Cambridge Square, a mixed-use development. Grocery store options such as Publix, ALDI, and Food City can also be found in Ooltewah. Residents have easy access to the nearby Hamilton Place Mall and its surrounding big box stores such as Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Home Depot, Walmart Supercenter, and Lowe’s.

 

 

OUTDOORS AND PARKS:

Wolftever Creek is a short drive from Ooltewah and features a greenway that connects walkers, runners, and bicyclists to nearby parks. These areas include a dog park, playgrounds, and even an amphitheater. Enterprise South Nature Park is also close by and offers miles of recreational options, while Booker T. Washington State Park treats visitors to the sights and sounds of Chickamauga Lake and all that it offers.

 

 

FESTIVALS:

The Annual Blessing of the Animals is held each year at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church and celebrates the church’s patron saint of animals and the environment. The day’s festivities consist of a petting zoo, pet parade, short liturgy, and pet adoption sponsored by area rescue organizations. An annual Melon Fest takes place at the Ooltewah Farmers Market and includes seed spitting contests, line dancing, and free watermelon. The city is also home to an Oktoberfest and Christmas celebration each year.

 

 

SPORTS:

The Honors Course is located in Ooltewah and continues to gain notoriety. This 400-acre private golf course has played host to many amateur competitions. Other clubs in the area include Brown Acres Golf Course, Council Fire Golf Club, The Champions Club at Hampton Creek, and Concord Golf Club. The Snow Hill Recreation League arranges baseball games in the fall and spring, and the Ooltewah Swim Center provides pool parties and swimming lessons for all ages.
