Chattanooga area residents can choose from a number of hospitals for top-quality care. Among them, four large health care systems, including Erlanger, CHI Memorial, Parkridge, and Tennova Healthcare, offer multiple locations. Additionally, two rehabilitation hospitals, Siskin and HealthSouth, offer nationally recognized care. Kindred, a long-term acute care hospital, is located in Chattanooga.
The Erlanger Health System is a multi-hospital system with five hospitals in Chattanooga. It is the tri-state region’s only level one trauma hospital, with five LIVE FORCE air ambulances stationed around Chattanooga to support the region. The Erlanger Southeast Regional Stroke Center is the fourth largest interventional stroke program in the United States and is recognized for its world-class stroke and neurosciences program. Erlanger is also home to the region’s only kidney transplant program, and T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital at Erlanger houses the region’s only level four Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Erlanger also serves as the region’s academic teaching hospital, partnering with the University Of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga Campus. Erlanger just recently announced plans for a $25 million mental health hospital.
CHI Memorial is a nonprofit faith-based health care organization that provides preventative, primary, and acute hospital care. CHI Memorial’s Rees Skillern Cancer Institute, a leading provider in cancer services, offers state-of-the-art technologies for minimally invasive treatments and seven centers, each dedicated to a specific type of cancer. The recently completed Guerry Heart and Vascular Center is well known for its advanced cardiac care and highly trained cardiac specialists. CHI Memorial also offers advanced imaging services and an Orthopedic Center with the region’s only joint replacement center.
Parkridge Health System is a multi-campus facility which includes Parkridge Medical Center, Parkridge East Hospital, Parkridge Valley Hospital, and Parkridge West Hospital. Its main campus, Parkridge Medical Center, currently undergoing a $62 million expansion, offers comprehensive acute care services, including cardiology, oncology at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, award-winning orthopedics, and a 24-hour emergency department. Parkridge East Hospital, located in East Ridge, provides Neonatal Intensive Care as well as orthopedics and advanced gynecologic procedures. Both Parkridge Medical Center and Parkridge East have pioneered new robotic technology for minimally invasive surgery. Parkridge Valley Hospital, a behavioral health facility, offers mental health services, as well as treatment for addictive disorders. Parkridge West provides 24/7 emergency care and a variety of outpatient and behavioral health services.
Tennova Healthcare, one of the largest healthcare systems in Tennessee with 12 hospitals, has two campuses in Cleveland. Collectively, they offer inpatient and outpatient care, diagnostic services, medical and surgical care, and a 24-hour emergency care unit. Accredited as a Chest Pain Center by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, the Heart and Vascular Center provides comprehensive heart care. Recently formed, it’s new Orthopedic and Spine Center provides advanced specialized care. Tennova also provides a Sleep Disorders Center, accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Located in downtown Chattanooga, Kindred Hospital is a transitional care hospital providing long-term acute care. Kindred houses seriously ill patients who require specialized care over an extended recovery period. Its services include pulmonary care, complex wound care, dialysis, ICU or special care units, IV antibiotic therapy, rehabilitation services, pain management, and more.
Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation, nationally known for providing exceptional care, is the only nonprofit rehabilitation hospital in Tennessee. Siskin has specialized inpatient treatment programs in brain injury, amputation, stroke, spinal cord injury, orthopedics, neurological disorders, and major multiple trauma, among others.
HealthSouth Chattanooga Rehabilitation Hospital is the region’s only hospital certified by The Joint Commission for stroke and rehabilitation care. It treats stroke, amputations, arthritis, brain injury, burns, hip fracture, joint replacement, multiple traumas, neurological disorders including Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, orthopedic conditions, and cardiopulmonary conditions. Affiliated with Catholic Health Initiatives, CHI Memorial has been serving Chattanooga residents since 1952 and is the region’s only faith-based health care system. CHI Memorial is a regional referral center of choice with 3,400 associates and nearly 700 affiliated physicians providing health care throughout Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia. The Chattanooga Heart Institute was founded in 1977. Chattanooga Heart partnered with CHI Memorial in 2011 to offer broader access to a network of state-of-the art resources. In addition to serving as the region’s only Level One Trauma Center, the Erlanger Health System has five Tennessee-based campuses and six emergency rooms. It is the 7th largest public health care system in the United States and Chattanooga’s second largest employer, with more than 5,000 employees. Erlanger is also the region’s only academic teaching center through its affiliation with the UT College of Medicine at Chattanooga. One of its five hospitals, T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital at Erlanger, is the only pediatric specialty hospital in the region. With 817 licensed beds, Erlanger also maintains LIFE FORCE, a fleet of five air ambulances based in Tennessee and Georgia.
